Confidential Counselling · Workplaces

Somewhere independent to speak — inside no one's chain of command.

For employees, volunteers, members and others associated with an organisation who need a confidential conversation before deciding anything.

Proposition

Independent support for people. Credible insight for organisations.

Nexus provides external confidential counselling for international and multilingual organisations. Eligible employees, volunteers and members receive an independent place to speak, understand their options and decide what—if anything—they want to do next. Access is provided through an arrangement established with their organisation.

Any organisational reporting is limited to agreed, anonymised and aggregated patterns that cannot reasonably be traced back to an individual. Removing a name is not sufficient if the circumstances could still identify someone. Individual case information is not shared without the person's explicit consent, subject only to the clearly explained limits of confidentiality.

Within those limits, patterns can be brought to the attention of senior leadership in a clear and constructive way. Joachim Ramakers combines careful listening with extensive experience engaging senior managers, executive leadership and boards. He understands both what people experience at work and the organisational context in which responsible decisions must be made.

Conviction

Everyone deserves a workplace where they can be fully themselves

I believe everyone should be able to come to work feeling safe, seen, taken seriously and valued for what they contribute.

Those conditions shape whether people feel able to speak openly, participate fully and bring their judgement, energy and initiative to their work. When they do, trust, engagement and the willingness to go the extra mile can grow—and organisations benefit as a result. But the starting point is the person, not organisational performance: dignity, trust and knowing that someone will listen carefully when something does not feel right.

An external Confidential Counsellor cannot create a healthy workplace culture alone. The role can, however, provide an independent and confidential place where someone can speak, make sense of their situation and consider what—if anything—they want to do next.

People come with

  • Inappropriate or unwanted behaviour
  • Bullying
  • Discrimination
  • Harassment
  • Integrity concerns
  • Difficult interpersonal situations
  • Uncertainty about whether or how to raise something
  • A need for confidential space to understand the options

How a conversation usually works

We agree a time and a way to speak. You describe what has happened, as much or as little as you want. I listen, ask questions, and help you order the situation.

Together we look at what options actually exist — informal steps, a formal route, support elsewhere, or waiting. The limits of confidentiality are explained at the start, so you can decide what you share.

You decide. Nothing moves because I think it should.

What the role is, and is not

A confidential counsellor sits outside the process.

It is

  • Independent listening and support
  • Help making sense of a situation
  • A clear view of the options that exist
  • A decision that stays with you

It is not

  • HR, management or line supervision
  • An investigation
  • A complaints or disciplinary procedure
  • Therapy or medical care

The person seeking support retains agency over what happens next, within the applicable ethical, safeguarding and legal limits — which are explained openly before you decide what to share.

For organisations

Why external, and why independent

Internal confidential counsellors do valuable work. But in smaller organisations, close-knit teams or international structures, people sometimes need someone who is clearly outside — not a colleague, not connected to their manager, not part of the process that might follow.

An external arrangement can give people a route they are more willing to use, and give leadership an independent, credible option for people who would otherwise stay silent. What an arrangement should look like — scope, availability, languages and any reporting — is agreed with each organisation.

Silence is rarely the absence of a problem. It is usually the absence of a safe route.

If your organisation already has an arrangement with Nexus

Please use the dedicated access information provided through your organisation. That route is designed to protect the independence and confidentiality of the contact. The public Nexus email address is not an individual counselling intake channel.

Languages

Confidential conversations can be conducted in Dutch, English, Spanish and German. Joachim also speaks French and Portuguese at an intermediate level; whether either language is suitable for a particular conversation is agreed beforehand.

Would this fit your organisation?

We can talk through what an arrangement might look like in practice, and whether it is right for your context.
